The Dreams Community fair ran for the last 2 weeks in April 2006, were hoping this will be the first in a long line of yearly fairs. With so much support from the groups with in secondlife it was a huge sucess.
Mundy Harbinger did an excellent job in pulliing together some fireworks just before the Fair hit town. While we didn't give them the exposure they deserved (due to lag and grid problems), they went up periodically and heroically. They were AWESOME!
The Fair had some glitches.
Opening night, there was a grid attack. Luckily, some of us were in-world including the two musicians that were going to start us off: dragonofwar Nino and VincentValentine Shriner. They valiently started the Fair off even though our numbers were few.
At the end of the set, we were trying to figure out what to do... will SL entrance again be available for others (including Frogg Marlowe and Wayfinder Wishbringer, the next two musicians) or not.
Amalthea Blanc had designed an excellent stage complete with musical instruments (piano, drums, guitars, etc). So, we danced and played our own concert until we were able to contact Frogg Marlowe. He did a long-distance concert from off-line so we still got the benefit of his performance. If you haven't heard him, you should. Mellow and folksy. As the grid came back up, we at least got in some good fireworks.
There were 2 more grid attacks during the Fair, shutting down several activities including the concert by Astrin Few. Makes you wonder if they have a thing against musicians. However, the events that did take place were soooo much fun.
T1 Radio went above and beyond the call of duty in providing us with day-long music, extra shows, DJs and assisting those of us (me, especially) who seem to be brain-dead in putting sound streams in place or just plain needed technical assistance.
Plus, a few groups forgot to show up for their scheduled activities or had really bad technical problems. I want to thank you, the public, for being so pleasant about those disruptions and the people who were having the technical difficulties for persevering. Special thanks goes to Wayfinder Wishbringer for a variety of things but even moreso for "pulling the fat out of the fire" on Closing Night. We couldn't get the music stream for our Live Musician, Juel Resistance¦, and he pulled out some Elven magic that produced an arch that you walked through, and VOILA! music appeared. Then, Wayfinder went on to put on an outstanding performance.
My visitor counters went haywire with all the activity, so I don't have a good count. However, I did want to mention that the LINDEN DUNK was a success again this year. We were in a scramble because just short of the time for the dunk, we found our tinys-tank did not work. The team started working and Mundy Harbinger pulled out a working product just under the wire. He also made them with a transluscent front panel so you could see the dunkee. Which made the "Stuff the Tank" activity that Pathfinder instigated so much more fun. I think I heard the final count was something like 13 Lindens? Not sure.. but they sure had to skinny down and there wasn't much wiggle room.
Among the Lindens who made it to this event, and I apologize for leaving anyone out (dumb visitor counter) were: Robin Linden, Jeska, Coffee, Vektor, Nigel,Data, Brent, Bub, Cyn, Torley, Liana, Gulliver, Tess, Sally, Red, Adam, Pony, Babbage, Zero, Hermia, Jesse, Blue, Pathfinder, Karen, and Aura Linden. Many thanks to you! It was fun. We had well over a hundred people come through during the two and a half hour event. All of the monies donated during that day were donated to the various groups involved in the Fair.
The Dream Team was WONDERFUL! We made it to 5th place in Popular Places on the second day of the fair with 18727 traffic! We were in the top ten 5 times during the Fair and on the list for days not impacted by the grid attacks.. altho we were still 7th on opening night. We went from a bare island to having a running fair in just a month. Thank you so much, all of you!
Next year will be even better!
