BrainTalk Communities is a website consisting of self-help forums and chat rooms for the support of people with a wide range of neurological difficulties.
It was started in 1993 by John Lester, then of Massachusett General Hospital/Harvard Medical School. In John's words, "Braintalk's mission since 1993 is to create safe and supportive virtual spaces where the general public, patients, and caregivers can share experiences and emotional support." Since that time, it has become a non-profit organization and John is currently with Linden Labs as a Community Outreach leader focussing on the use of Second Life for real life (first life) educational applications. BrainTalk continues under his direction, however, and is constantly adding new forums.
